INEC ASSURES FREE AND CREDIBLE ELECTION COME SATURDAY.


The National Chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission, Professor Atahiru Jega has promised candidates in Saturday’s governorship election of a level playing field. Professor Jega who stated this at a stakeholder’s consultative meeting at the Nigerian Union of Journalists Press Centre, Yenagoa, observed that Bayelsa remains strategic making the forum imperative as a last minute preparation for the election continues.
The national chairman maintains that since he came on board INEC has endeavoured to conduct credible elections and the Bayelsa experience would be a further testimony. Professor Jega said both sensitive and non-sensitive materials for the election have arrived the state and advised the parties to approach the election with good intension.
In an opening remark, the State Resident Electoral Commissioer, Mr. Edwin Nwantarali called on Bayelsans to draw lessons from the Adamawa State experience which he said was violence free and credible. He also stated that, no arms would be allowed at the polling units and only people with voters card should go to the voting centres. Accreditation of voters  starts by eight’0’clock in the morning and voting will begin at the half past noon, while the exercise will end when the last person on the queue casts his vote.
The REC said materials would be dispatched by seven’0’clock in the morning. Thirty five political parties are contesting the governorship election.
