BAYELSA KIDS ARE BACK FROM SHANGHAI

The wife of the Bayelsa state Governor, Mrs. Alayingi  Sylva , assured the less privileged children from the state, of governments commitment to tackle  their needs and aspirations; she said this when she received the children who represented the state and the country at the international children’s Art and Culture Festival in Shanghai China. This trip was facilitated by Her Excellency and sponsored by the State Government through the states Ministry of Gender and Social Development. Mrs. Sylva was very delighted that the children who were between the ages of ten and fifteen were picked from various communities in the state; and they include orphans, children of widows and other less privileged.
Mrs. Sylva commended the Director of the Child Development Department, Mrs. Vivian Odiowei for her supervisory role in China. The permanent secretary of Gender and Social Development Ministry Dr. Ekio Promise and Mrs. Vivian Odiowei both thanked Her Excellency for her generosity.

YENAGOA LOCAL GOVERNMENT WOMEN VISITS BAYELSA STATE'S FIRST LADY


Wife of the Bayelsa State Governor, Mrs. Alayingi Sylva welcomes Yenagoa Local Government women in Government house on the 24th of August 2011. She commented satisfactorily on the team work between the Governor and his Deputy, She further appreciated the Deputy Governor and his wife Iyorozitei for being a good representative of the government when the need arises. She also commended the people of Bayelsa state in producing a worthy son in the Deputy Governor. She encouraged Yenagoa Local Government Area women to pray for lasting peace in the State as they have always been a pillar of support to the Sylva administration and urged the women to join in the monthly prayer for Bayelsa State. The women appealed for appointment of more women into positions of authorities. They commended on the healthcare centres and assured the wife of the Governor that they will work tirelessly to return the Sylva/Seibarugu ticket come 2012.

NO MORE WAKE-KEEPING

The people of Obhan Anyama in Ogbia LGA Bayelsa State, have banned night wake-keeps in all the eighteen communities in the clan.                                                 
This was the outcome of an emergency meeting of Ezue Obhan Anyama held at Onuebum last Saturday.
In a Statement ,the Chairman of Ezue Obhan Anyama Mr. Rex Ogbuku said the measure was to check repeated cases of unwarranted attacks on law abiding citizens resulting in loss of lives and property.
He called on all Ogbia communities within the Anyama clan to desist from night wake-keeps or face unpleasant consequences inline with the directives of ogbia Brotherhood and the Obanobhan of Anyama clan, King Omie Theophilus.

PEACE DAY CELEBRATION IN YENAGOA, BAYELSA STATE

 Yesterday (22/08/11) marked the second anniversary of Peace Day in Bayelsa State as well as the success of the post Amnesty Programme. Governor Timipre Sylva stated that Peace Park was symbolically designed as it was the arena where the ex- militants laid down their arms. He further buttressed his statement by identifying the recent increase in recognition in the comity of states; also a renowned son of this great Bayelsa State emerged as the President of The Federal Republic of Nigeria.
 Furthermore, he stated that the disarmament of the ex-militants has evidently resulted to vast improvement of oil production in the federation. Therefore he enjoined the people of Bayelsa State to embrace peace. Chairman of Niger Delta Peace and Conflict Resolution, Chief James Jephthah, acknowledged the huge success recorded as the ex-militants undergo various training. He further enjoined the youths to embrace long lasting peace towards ensuring development as well as edifying the State.

MOSQUITO NET DISTRIBUTION


The wife of the Bayelsa State Governor, Mrs. Alanyingi Sylva said that the proper distribution and use of long lasting insecticide treated bed nets would reduce malaria related deaths in the state. This was stated during her meeting with the National Malaria control Programme and Roll Back Malaria partners at the Government House, Yenagoa.  The wife of the governor on accepting to be the Net Ambassador said she would mobilize women to participate in the fight against malaria. She also stated that the wives of stake holders would be involved to ensure that the nets are distributed to every household in the state.
Mr. Emmanuel Obi the state support team leader of the National Malaria Control Programme of the Federal Ministry of Health earlier announced that the flag off of the distribution of these treated nets in the state would take place on the 12th of next month, these nets would be given for free to every house hold between the 14th and 17th of next month and only women would be required to go to the distribution centers to collect the nets.

REPORT ON THE INTERACTIVE SESSION WITH FRIENDS OF GOVERNOR TIMIPRE SYLVA HELD ON THE 18TH OF AUGUST AT THE BANQUET HALL,GOVERNMENT HOUSE YENAGOA.

The Bayelsa state government has announced plans to meet with proprietors of schools in the State with a view to checking arbitrary increase in school fees.
while considering sending a bill to the State House of Assembly in this regard, the State house of Assembly has been enjoined to expedite action for the quick passage of the Bayelsa Expenditure and Income Transparency Initiative bill into law to ensure openess in Government business.
Governor Timipre Sylva stated this in an interactive session with one hundred and twenty Facebook friends at the Banquet hall in Yenagoa.
The Governor called on the people to work collectively with Government to develop public schools by keying into the vision of Government towards achieving set goals.
According to the Governor,when the model senatorial secondary schools are completed,the problem of space would be solved,stating that in the dry season his administration would build sixteen new schools. Two for each Local Government.
Chief Sylva also announced the plan of his administration to build twenty housing units in October this year, also it aims to kick start the construction of five hundred housing units and another five hundred during the second phase.
On the absence of primary health care centres in the rural areas, the Governor who said he has been a believer in the health sector also assured that by December this year, Government will inaugurate the Melford Okilo hospital which he decribed as one of the best in line with International Standards as well as other sixteen health centres across the state by April next year.
Commenting on the issue of employment, Chief Sylva stted that the development of all sectors of the economy was necessary in order to create employment opportunity.
He pointed out that Government has already signed a memorandum of understanding with a South Korean company, Hyundai Industries to establish a Fabrication yard which when in operation would create two thousand jobs in addition to the Brass LNG.
Governor Sylva also spoke about the establishment of skills acquisition Centres at Asuama in Kolo-Kuma/Opokuma Local Government area, and Elebele in Ogbia Local Government area for those who are unemployed.
Reacting to questions on Government plans for teachers, Chief Sylva said his administration has high premium for teacher's welfare.
On Government approval of six hundred and eighty-seven million naira for payment of bursary allowances to students, the Governor promised to clear all backlog of arears of brusary payment soon.
On attracting investors for the industralization of the state, Chief Sylva stated that Government decided to set up the state Plastic Industry at Elebele and would soon launch the sale of PVC pipes.
The Governor pointed out that if re-elected, the major focus of his administration would be on human capital development and appealed to Bayelsans to give him another chance.
The coordinator of the Facebook friends, Mr. Ebikefe Frank said the Facebook friends of Governor Sylva is for volunteers interested in advocating for the Governor in his two thousand and twelve re-election bid.
Commissioner for Tourism Delta State and Nollywood star, Mr. Richard Mofe-Damijo also urged the Governor to go beyond interacting with Facebook friends, to organizing town hall meetings with other groups in the state.
The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on New Media and social networking, Barr. Oyanbo Owei, the Initiator of the Facebook friends interactive session with Governor Sylva, said the internet has made the world a global village and described the facebook as a social neworksite.               African/American artiste who was a member of the Rhythm and Blues group, Shalamar in the late Seventies Mr. Jeffrey Daniels, enjoined the people to sink their differences to realize the dream of the founding fathers.

THE GOVERNOR EXPLAINS


The Governor of Bayelsa state, Chief Timipre Sylva, in a TV Bayelsa program tagged “The Governor Explains” has promised to focus more attention on Education, Agriculture and Housing sectors when re-elected.
The Governor also said that areas have already been mapped out to construct G.R.A phases, stating that Isaac Boro Express road will be mapped out to link Elebele community to decongest the state capital. He further explained that the sports sector has been given its due place under his administration and that athletes will be compensated before the forth-coming sports festival.
On security, the Governor said Fam-Tamgbe was created to tackle the uprising cases of criminality and protect Bayelsans. The Governor further explained the demolition of illegal structures and those obstructing natural channels were not politically motivated as claimed by some people.
Governor Sylva described as unjustifiable the situation where government is made to bear the burden of salary payment of staffs it did not authorize to be employed by the media houses. He said that there would be a meeting with the media houses to discuss the way forward to run a sustainable system. Chief Timipre Sylva also called on Bayelsans to join hands in the development of the state and to shun divisive activities.

MEETING WITH ROYAL HIGHNESS

In a statement by the secretary to the Senior Special Assistant on Chieftaincy Affairs, Chief Timothy Ekadi said Kings are expected to hold quarterly meetings with all Royal Highness in their Kingdoms.

The move is to complement government’s efforts in maintaining peace at the various communities especially as a build up to next year’s governorship polls.

Meanwhile while government has announced the removal of the Amananaowei of Agbere Community, Chief Aziza Ekadi  for the violation of the Chieftaincy law.

Consequently, Chief  Ekadi has been directed to handover all community property in his possession to Chief Victor Alale who will act as Amananaowei until a new Amananaowei is elected and installed.

THE IBEDAOWEI OPUOKUN SEAT HAS BEEN DECLARED VACANT!

The Opokuma Traditional Rulers Council and the Opokuma Electoral Council have declared the office of the Ibedaowei Opuokun “the Fourth” of Opokuma clan vacant
Consequently the electoral council has commenced the sales of nomination forms at the cost of three hundred thousand non-refundable fee.

The amount should be drawn in favour of Opokuma Traditional Rulers Council at Stanbic IBTC Bank, Yenagoa.

A statement by the Chairman of the electoral committee, Mr. Achimota Yalah and the Secretary, Mr. Ebikihinja Tarabina says interested persons must not be below forty five years and should be a school certificate holder or its equivalent.

BAYELSA STATE GOVERNMENT CONSTITUTES COMMITTEE ON BURSARY PAYMENT


Bayelsa state government has constituted a seven-man committee to ensure the successful implementation of bursary payment for students of the state origin in institutions of higher learning across the country.
Chairman of the committee, Mr. Ogbuebite Jonathan said the state government approved the stoppage of payment of bursary due to complain of inconveniences and to prevent fraud in the payment system. He noted that the new bursary payment system will be done through banks and via the internet with each undergraduate student to receive 15,000 naira, Post graduate students, 80, 000 naira while PHD students are to receive 120,000 naira.
The chairman who said students of Monotechnics, Medical students and physically challenged students will also be beneficiaries of the payment, attributed the delay of payment to non-compliance by the Registry of various institutions to release list of students and the tedious verification exercise.
