GOVERNORSHIP CANDIDATES LAUDS INDEPENDENT NATIONAL ELECTORAL COMMISSION (INEC)

The Committee of Governorship Candidates in Bayelsa State has lauded the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for its adherence to the rule of law in the release of the list of aspirants for next month’s governorship election.
In a media briefing in Yenagoa, the forum urged INEC to strongly guard against being pressured by any party or interest group to accept candidates that have not been cleared by the court in the subsisting litigation of the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
The forum, attended by over fourteen governorship candidates of various parties said they would use legitimate means including boycotting the elections and seeking redress in court to stop INEC from conducting the election should the commission act otherwise.
The body described INEC as the final authority besides the courts in election matters and charged the commission to remain forthright till the end of the process.
