BAYELSA GOVERNMENT TO BUILD AIRPORT AT OGBIA

The Bayelsa State government has concluded plans to build a modern airport in Ogbia, the headquarters of the Ogbia Local Government Area. The state Commissioner for Finance, Chief Stephen Ogula, who disclosed this to newsmen in Yenagoa said that already survey mapping and visibility jobs had been concluded on the site. Ogula said the decision to build a new airport was informed by the decision of the Federal Government to take over the Cargo Airport located at Okordia- Zarama area, off the East-West road. The commissioner said that funds had already been made available to the contractors, adding that they would soon move to site. “The airport will be a first class one and will be compared to any airport in the world.” Ogula said the state government had concluded plans to dualise the Bayelsa Oil Palm road up to Elebele in Ogbia local government area, hinting also that the Sagbama community would soon be connected to the national electricity grid.On the three senatorial district roads, the commissioner said that government has not lost focus on them as the contractors have been mobilized to move to site. “You can see the continuation of work on the Yenagoa Gateway road, off Igbogene.” Ogula said the government would continue to ensure that it does not shy away from its social responsibility to the people of the state as there were plans to open up the hinterlands for development. The commissioner said the 500-bed hospital, which had been renamed Chief Melford Okilo Memorial Hospital, and which would also serve as a referral centre, would soon be commissioned. Other projects to be commissioned, the commissioner said, were the legislative quarters and the new commissioners’ quarters that would be named after former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo. Ogula called on the people of the state to continue to support the present administration, as the government was doing everything to develop the state.
