GOVERNMENT CONTINUES TO PLAY ITS MEDIATORY AND REGULATORY ROLE BETWEEN OIL COMPANIES AND HOST COMMUNITIES

The Bayelsa state Government says it will continue to play a mediatory and regulatory role between the oil companies and their host communities.

The Commissioner for Environment, Chief Robert Enogha while speaking with newsmen in Yenagoa lamented about the level of inconsistencies on the part of host communities, pointing out that the Koluama/Apoi fire incident from the rig platform of Chevron will be a test case for them.

Chief Enogha stated that the Environment Ministry has developed a website that deals with Environmental issues, noting that the state through the ministry organized the first stake holder’s summit on environment late last year and the oil companies also attended.

The commissioner expressed gratitude to the people of Koluama for rescuing the Chevron workers who were trapped in the explosion.
