GOVERNMENT TO DRIVE FUNCTIONAL EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM

The State Commissioner for Education, Prof. Tuemi Asuka, gave the assurance in his office in Yenagoa of government’s plan to drive a functional educational system. While decrying the fallen standard of education, he noted that the state is working out a blue-print to make education a more practical and skill acquisition oriented to engender growth in the economy.
The Commissioner emphasized that  based on the fact that certificate acquired from schools considers both character and learning as prerequisite there was need for parents and guardians to consult experts before taking decision on their future.
Prof. Asuka stated that mass promotion in schools has long been discouraged. He explained that the education ministry was concerned with the non-chalant attitude of parents towards their children’s academic performances, however a child’s academic development depends on  social, psychological, spiritual and mental variables noting that there was need for a special relationship between the teacher and the child to foster effective character building.
Prof. Asuka, however promised to invite school principals, head teachers for a meeting to look into gray areas with a view to addressing them
