DIRECTIVE FOR RE-OPENING OF SCHOOLS


Government has rescinded its earlier directive that private and public schools should close for one week. To this end, academic activities has resumed in various primary and secondary educational institutions in the state. The Commissioner for Education, Professor Tuemi Asuka said the development of necessitated by Government concern for the safety of students, pupil and children.
He further expressed appreciation to all parents, guardians principals, head teachers, school proprietors and teachers for complying with the directive. Meanwhile, a Radio Bayelsa Staff reporter who went to town to ascertain the level of compliance reported that most schools visited obeyed the earlier directive for school closure.
It would be recalled that the state council of the Nigerian Union of Journalists has called for re-opening of schools as terminal examinations were fast approaching. The Council Chairman, Mr. Tarinyo Akono  stressed that for effective revision, government should reconsider its stance on the closure.
