Her Excellency, wife of the Executive Governor of Bayelsa State, Mrs Alanyingi Sylva, in partnership with Zinox computers, a leading computer firm in Africa, yesterday 11th October 2011, at the banquet hall Yenagoa, gave out computers to secondary school students, teachers, and principals from some selected schools in the State.
Speaking at the event, the Managing Director of Zinox computers, Mr Okoro said Her Excellency is a woman with the heart of gold as she was the first person to buy into the idea of the Zinox whizz-kid, a novel innovation borne out of the desire to revive the dwindling reading culture in Nigeria.
The computer described as a wisdom bank, is a high-tech computer loaded with over 80,000 past JAMB, NECO, WAEC, and POST-UME, questions, about 2000 e-books, 23,000 audio books in MP3 format covering all subjects.
Her Excellency, while speaking said she works in the knowledge that knowledge is power and called on the students whom she called her children to take advantage of the opportunity presented to them. She also called on other organizations, corporate bodies, and multi-nationals to support the noble venture which will spread across the State in a drive to conquer the menace of exam failure in the State.
The chairman of SUBEB Bayelsa, Barrister White, praised the efforts of the First Lady of Bayelsa state for her commitment towards advancing the education of Bayelsa students. Also speaking, the house committee Chairman on education, Hon. Jonathan Obuebite challenged the students to be focused and take advantage of the opportunity presented to them.
The benefitting schools are BDGS Ovom, Yenagoa, Saint Jude’s Girls secondary school, Yenagoa, Nembe Grammar school Nembe, Basic Junior secondary school, Okpoama, Government secondary school, Twon-Brass and Epie secondary school Opolo, Yenagoa.
