GOV. SYLVA RESTATES COMMITMENT TO SUPPORTING YOUTHS WITH EXCEPTIONAL SKILLS

Bayelsa State Governor, Chief Timipre Sylva has restated his administration’s commitment to supporting Bayelsans who exhibit exceptional talents in the entertainment industry as well as other fields of human endeavour.

Chief Sylva stated this while receiving members of the Ekubo family, winners of the Maltina Dance Hall Competition Season 5, together with the Lead Judge of the competition, Mr Michael Adegoke, who paid him a courtesy visit in Government House, Yenagoa.

Governor Sylva said machinery has been set in motion to discover gifted youths of the state with a view to supporting them to achieve their full potentials.

While felicitating with the Ekubo family for their feat, Chief Sylva remarked that their victory has brought honour to the state.

The governor, who recalled the heroic exploits of Bayelsa-born Timi Dakolo, who won the West African Idol singing competition in 2008; Gee Bonz, a comedian, who won the 2010 National Comedy Challenge and the achievements of some sportsmen and women from the state, said God has truly blessed Bayelsa, adding that what was left was to harness the potentials of all those who exhibit one form of talent or the other.

He noted that the state government has, for some years now, been hosting the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) as part of a deliberate plan to make Bayelsa the hub of the entertainment industry.

Chief Sylva added that government is already working closely with an American choreographer, Jeffrey Daniels of the Shalamar fame and Timi Dakolo to build a world-class entertainment centre that will comprise a dance studio among other facilities.

The centre, according to the Governor, will, on completion, help to harness budding talents in the music and entertainment industry in the state.

While commending the Ekubo Family for their hardwork and dedication, Chief Sylva promised to support the family to enable them attain greater heights.

In his remarks, the Lead Judge of the competition, Mr Michael Adegoke said the Ekubo family showed class throughout the competition and even handled otherwise difficult dance steps with relative ease.

While speaking, head of the Ekubo family, Mr Solomon Ekubo, appreciated the government and people of the state for standing by them throughout and after the competition.

He said besides their efforts, the votes of Bayelsans, was largely responsible for their coming tops in the competition.

The highlight of the courtesy visit was the presentation of their award to the State Governor, Chief Timipre Sylva.

The Ekubo family hails from Koluama 1 community in the Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of the state.

  1. I would expect the Gov. (our governor) to use the family achievement as a platform to further enhance his gains on peace in the state. And I should add that he is already doing it.
