FEMALE POLITICAL APPOINTEES IN BAYELSA ENDORSE GOV. SYLVA FOR 2ND TENURE

Female political appointees in Bayelsa have thrown their weight behind the second tenure bid of Governor Timipre Sylva.

The body of female appointees in Bayelsa, led by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Gender Mobilisation, Mrs. Vivian Ere-Imananagha, not only declared their unflinching loyalty to the governor, but also pledged to galvanise support for Chief Sylva for the forth-coming governorship election in the state.

The women, who declared their support when the Female Political Appointees Forum of Bayelsa State paid a solidarity visit to Governor Sylva in Government House, said as wives and mothers, they were better equipped to mobilise support.

While lauding the governor for his gender-friendly disposition, the group assured that the members would carry the message of Governor Sylva’s re-election bid to all the nooks and crannies of the state.

Mrs. Vivian Imananagha stated that the visit was primarily aimed at thanking the Governor for the outstanding manner he has carried women along right from the inception of the present administration.

According to her, over forty women currently hold political appointments in the state, explaining that the group was formed to, among other objectives, propagate and galvanise support for the policies and programmes of government.

Mrs. Ere-Imananagha pleaded with the governor to consider women for more appointments and contract awards, adding that they would never betray the confidence reposed in them.

In his response, Chief Sylva said his administration will continue to show commitment to the cause of women in the state in view of the invaluable support they have shown towards government’s policies and programmes.

Governor Sylva, who observed that women have generally fared better than their male counterparts when it comes to showing genuine support and celebrating the government, promised to take women into consideration whenever appointments are to be made or government wishes to set up important committees.

The Governor used the opportunity to advise Bayelsans to cultivate the habit of celebrating themselves as doing so was healthy for the psyche and growth of the state.

Chief Sylva, who expressed delight over the visit, pointed out that there is every need to celebrate the state because a greater percentage of its people and leadership possess adorable attributes.

He, therefore, urged the men to take a cue from the womenfolk even as he called on Bayelsans, including those who are involved in what he describes as the “pull him down syndrome” to join forces with government in order to take the state to the next level of development.

While calling the women to work hard to ensure his victory in the forthcoming gubernatorial election in the state, Governor Sylva advised the Forum to compile a database of competent women to serve as a pool from which government could easily draw whenever the need for appointments and contract awards arise.

In addition to three female commissioners, a large number of Special Advisers, Senior Special Assistants, Board members and Permanent Secretaries, the Chief Judge, Head of Service, Director General, Due Process and e-Governance Bureau as well as the General Manager of the state-owned Gloryland Television are all women in Bayelsa.
