INTERNATIONAL NURSES WEEK 2011


The Bayelsa State Governor, Chief Timipre Sylva has re-emphasized his commitment towards the development of the health sector. This was stated during this year’s International Nurses Week in Yenagoa with the theme “Closing the Gap Increasing Access and Equity”.  The governor was represented by his Special Adviser on Health, Dr B.I Dadigi. According to the Governor, the government has shown its interest in the health sector by employing over 200 nurses to strengthen the manpower needed in the sector. He also stated that, the Niger Delta Teaching Hospital and other such model comprehensive health centers put in place are aimed at providing affordable health care services in the state.
The state chairman National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwife Mrs. Ebiuwou Koko-Obiyai during her address said that it’s proper for nurses to close the gap in the health care sector and ensure increased access to health care facilities; such as drugs and information services to the people.  The Special Adviser to the governor on Labour Matters Mr. Jackson Sou-Kiri also assured nurses of governments support, and advised them to take their work seriously.
