MILLENNIUM DEVELOPMENT GOALS PROJECTS IN BAYELSA RATED AS ONE OF THE BEST IN THE COUNTRY

The Secretary to the State Government, Alabo Gideon Ekeuwei has rated the Millennium Development Goals projects in Bayelsa as one of the best in Nigeria.                                                                                               The S.S.G explained that from 2008 to date, the state has succeeded in plowing the Millennium Development Goals fund into major projects such as the multiplication of plantain and banana farm at Igbogene, The Construction of a primary health centre at Koroama, a Farm Training Centre at Sabagreia and the Local content capacity development institute at Asuama in Kolokuma/Okpokuma L.G.A. Other projects embarked on are, Solar powered water project at Trofani, Okoloba and Odi health care centers were also constructed and upgraded in the same places such as Azuzuama, Bulu-orua, Obrigbene, Seleama in Brass L.G.A, Idema in Ogbia L.G.A as well as Sagbama, Asamabiri Famgbe.
 The S.S.G said a vocational and health care center is near completion in Otuoke while medical equipments worth millions of naira have been brought to be distributed to all the health care centers in the state.

MR PRESIDENT INSPECTS THE FEDERAL UNIVERSITY OTUOKE

President Goodluck Jonathan was on a two day visit to Bayelsa State. As part of his programme while in the state, President Jonathan undertook a tour of the site of the Federal University Otuoke in Ogbia LGA.              Mr President was impressed about the level of work done but charged the contractors to increase the pace of work on the University site.                                                                                                                               President Jonathan said that his government will not like to start any school with poor in-completed infrastructures as such he is hopeful that by October, the pace of work at the site would have made substantial progress.                                                                                                                                                        Mr President however commended the state Governor, Chief Timipre Sylva for his supportive role in the major projects in Otuoke.

GOVERNOR OF BAYELSA STATE BAGS NANS EXCELLENT LEADERSHIP AWARD

The Governor of Bayelsa state, Chief Timipre Sylva has charged students to be serious with their academic pursuits. He gave this charge at the Gloryland Cultural Centre Yenagoa, while addressing delegates at the twenty sixth convention of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS).

Chief Sylva bagged “NANS Excellent Leadership Award”. He lauded the students for their peaceful disposition, enjoined youths and students to be vanguards for positive change and transformational leadership.

The outgoing NANS President, Comrade Jude Imagwe and Local Organizing Committee Chairman, Comrade George Turnah commended the Governor for his student-friendly policies and also endorsed Governor Sylva’s re-election bid for 2012.

BAYELSA STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY SUMMONS DAEWOO

Following a motion moved by the lawmaker representing Yenagoa Constituency ‘three’, Mr. Emelah Gentle under matters of urgent public importance, the Bayelsa State House of Assembly has invited Daewoo 58 to appear before the House Committee on Environment, Oil and Gas.

Daewoo 58 is to explain the non-implementation of Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with its host communities. According to Mr. Emelah, Daewoo’s action is capable of causing disaffection with its host communities and portray the state in bad light. He also pointed out that Daewoo has also refused to give employment to youths and failed to repair the only existing road which according to him was destroyed by its heavy duty vehicles.

Members in their contributions described the action as against corporate social responsibility to the people, adding that if not checked it might rob the state of basic amenities and derail ongoing effort towards increased revenue base for the state.

BAYELSA STATE TOURISM DEVELOPMENT AND PUBLICITY BUREAU SET TO SPONSOR A FILM PROJECT

The Bayelsa State Tourism Development and Publicity Bureau in its efforts to promote tourism and launder the image of the state, has announced plans to kick start the first ever Bayelsa film project.

The Director General of the Bureau, Mr. Jokori Macaulay stated that the decision was taken in view of the Bureau’s resolve to put together a pool of creative talents in the state to drive the hospitality and Entertainment industries. He also said, youths from the recently organized film training by the Tourism Bureau in collaboration with the African Film Academy will be engaged in the project.

Mr. Jokori said the bureau has secured the collaboration of top Nollywood stars and Movie Professionals to ensure that World class films are produced, using the best locations in the state. He also used the medium to call on beneficiaries of the African Film Academy training to attend a crucial meeting with him at the conference hall of the State Tourism Development and Publicity Bureau along Isaac Boro Expressway by 12 noon next week Monday(8/08/11)

FIRST LADY OF BAYELSA STATE CHARGES CORP MEMBERS TO SUSTAIN GOVERNMENT’S HIV/AIDS AWARENESS CAMPAIGN IN SECONDARY SCHOOLS

While receiving Corp members from Akwa Ibom state serving in Bayelsa state, the wife of the Governor of Bayelsa state, Mrs. Alayingi Sylva charged Corp members who are posted to secondary schools to sustain the Bayelsa state Stay Alive Initiative (BASAI) and Anti HIV/AIDS Clubs in the schools which was established to increase advocacy on the prevention of HIV/AIDS among youths.

Mrs. Sylva assured the Corp members of her support and encouraged them to identify with their kinsmen. The Leader of the group, Miss Victoria Ubah stated that the Corp members are ready to render selfless service to the state and the nation. She added that arrangement is being made to teach women detergent making in order to generate income.

CAPABLE LADIES VISITS THE FIRST LADY OF BAYELSA STATE.

The First Lady of Bayelsa state, Mrs. Alayingi Sylva, stated that government is mindful of the challenges facing the people at the grassroots especially the women and assured that this will be addressed.

Mrs. Sylva gave this assurance when she received members of Capable Ladies Organization who paid her a courtesy visit in her office in Government House. She also stated that a tour to various communities and Local Government Areas of the state to interact with the people and seek ways to assist them will soon be made public.

The First lady decried a situation where people always find fault with the government of the day adding that this could be because of lack of information. She enjoined the Capable Ladies Organization, whose membership cuts across Local Government Areas, to assist in propagating government’s policies and programs at the community level.

President of the Organization, Mrs. Irene Azazi, said the body will support the 2012 bid of Governor Sylva because of the good works of his administration. She also commended the First lady for her assistance to the less privilege and the needy in the society.
